Khairy: Tok Mat to win big in Rantau
RANTAU POLLS RANTAU: Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin of Umno is expecting his acting party president Mohamad Hassan to win big in Rantau.
“Looks like a big win,” he said on Twitter.
The tweet alone received 179 retweets and304 likes.
Twitter user S Ismael in support to Khairy responded, “Salam ECRL, Salam 3-0”.
ECRL refers to the federal government’s shorter East Coast Rail Link with lesser cost whereas 3-0 refers to Rantau delivering a hattrick victory to BN after Cameron Highlands and Semenyih by election.
Another user Muhammad Izhar stated that Pakatan was not expected to win this by-election.
“I am expecting Tok Mat to win with a 60% majority vote,” he added.
Another user who tweets at @Anemayor said certain parties would credit the win to the use of race and religion card.
In a subsequent tweet, Khairy pointed out that Mohamad received support across ethnic lines which he saw as a sign for BN to regained mixed constituencies.
“Based on stream (saluran) results it’s not just Malay. #Rantau showing decent cross-ethnic support for BN @tokmatn9.
“This is possibly more significant than Cameron Highlands & Semenyih. Of course there’s only one Tok Mat, but it means BN can recover in mixed constituencies.”
