Khairy: Leave me out of Pakatan’s power play, too busy on public policy
PUCHONG: Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin today denied that he had submitted a private member’s motion to debate the power transition plan between Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Port Dickson MP Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
In a series of Instagram posts, Khairy said the purported letter addressed to Dewan Rakyat secretary Datuk Rosmee Hamzah does not even match his official correspondence letter, in terms of stationery.
“I have never used a letterhead with YB Tuan Khairy bla bla bla on top. That’s just so crass.
“Please don’t drag me into this backroom intrigue surrounding the succession. I am not involved and have no interest in being involved,” he said.
Earlier today, the purported letter dated November 20 was circulated online, calling for Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Ariff Md Yusoff to debate the power transition plan among the top Pakatan Harapan leaders.
“As the representative of Rembau, I submit the motion to debate the date of transition of his honourable prime minister to his honourable Port Dickson,” reads the purported letter.
Dismissing the matter outright, Khairy said whatever transition plan Pakatan has should be settled within the ruling coalition itself.
“I want to focus on policies that can assist Malaysians, who are now worse off under Harapan,” said the former federal minister, adding that he was late to clarify the matter as he is currently abroad.
Khairy also chided Ariff for ‘accepting’ the fake letter without verifying it with him.
However, Malaysiakini reported Ariff confirming that the Dewan Rakyat neither received nor accepted the fake letter.
“Parliament has not received or accepted this letter! How does Rembau (Khairy) know for sure we ‘accepted’ this letter? The honourable member better gets his ‘facts’ right,” Ariff told Malaysiakini.
After the humiliating defeat Pakatan suffered at the Tanjung Piai by-election, pressure has mounted on Mahathir to speed up his power transition plan.
However, Anwar had assured his supporters that Mahathir was committed to the transition plan after having a closed-door meeting with the prime minister yesterday.
