Johor Bersatu vows to stand by party’s MB candidate

PETALING JAYA: Amidst the heightening tensions over the appointment of a new Johor Menteri Besar, all 26 Bersatu division chiefs of the state have vowed to support the candidate that is chosen by the party leadership.

“All 26 Johor Bersatu division chiefs have agreed to hand over the decision on the new menteri besar to the party president and chairperson.

“(We) will also fully support whoever is chosen by the top leadership,” said Iskandar Puteri Bersatu chief Mohd Nasir Hashim who is also the Johor Bersatu deputy chairman.

He however stopped short of naming the shortlisted candidates.

He said that all the chiefs were appreciative of incumbent menteri besar Osman Sapian for his contributions to the state, and respected his decision to step down from the post.

“(But) we do feel sad over his decision,” he said.

There are speculations that there are three names shortlisted for the position but of the three only Dr Sahruddin Jamal is from Bersatu and is a front runner. Sahrudin is Bukit Kepong assemblyman and the state exco for agriculture, health and environment.

Out of the 56 state seats, Bersatu has eight seats.

Party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin meanwhile confirmed that they have two to three candidates.
