Jho Low’s aunt is in TRX City not 1MDB

KUALA LUMPUR: Fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho’s maternal aunt, Goh Gaik Kim, retained her position as TRX City Sdn Bhd company secretary but is not in scandal-riddled sovereign investment fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

TRX City is a former subsidiary of 1MDB.

The company confirmed Goh’s position but was in the dark over her relationship with the fugitive businessman who is better known as Jho Low, revealed The Edge Financial Daily.

“Honestly I don’t know, I don’t know if she is Jho Low’s aunt,” said a senior management personnel.

Gaik Kim is the younger sister to Low’s mother Puan Sri Evelyn Goh Gaik Ewe and she had been the company secretary of TRX City since the end of March 2011, and was also appointed then as company secretary of TRX City’s then parent company 1MDB.

She was also company secretary of 1MDB after being appointed in end of March 2011 and left in April 2016 after staff, Chen Kai Hong was appointed to the post.

The business daily also quoted sources as saying that Gaik Kim’s presence in TRX City Sdn Bhd created conflict of interest.

“While Goh (Gaik Kim) may be qualified for the job — TRX City’s website says she has over 20 years of experience as a company secretary — the question of conflict arises because her sister (Gaik Ewe) and brother-in-law (Tan Sri Larry Low Hock Peng) are wanted on allegations that they were involved in the shenanigans at 1MDB, and her nephew is deemed the architect of the scam that is 1MDB,” an observer was quoted saying.

“As company secretary Goh will have access to major decisions of TRX City. What is there to assure that these bits of information is not shared with her fugitive relatives?” the observer asked.
