Istana Negara: Palace guards and their horses undeterred by hot weather, stress

KUALA LUMPUR: It has been nearly a week since the Pakatan Harapan government collapsed following Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) exit from the ruling coalition.

Since then, the press, videographers and many others have gathered outside Istana Negara, in their attempt to get the latest updates on the current political situation from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

The Agong, Sultan Abdullah ibni Almarhum Sultan Ahmad Shah, as usual, broke royal protocols several times to address the press casually and mingled with them.

The Pahang royalty, with the support from the private sector, has been sponsoring food, beverages, sunscreen, umbrellas and many other items to accommodate those gathered outside Istana Negara.

However, one group that has not been mentioned so far are the Palace guards.

Adorning face masks to stave away the threat of coronavirus, the guards have always maintained their position and code of conduct despite being under hot weather.

“We are quite impressed by the guards, especially those mounted on horses. Despite the chaotic situation and hot sun, they have held firm to their duty and maintained their posture at all times,” said one reporter who claimed anonymity.

However, the reporter did mention that one horse neighed loudly earlier today, probably due to stress and heat.

The horse was later composed and had good rest before resuming its duty.

To the Palace guards and their ever-loyal horses, kudos to you!
