Indonesian man charged with wife’s murder at hotel in Singapore’s Chinatown

SINGAPORE, Oct 25 — An Indonesian national was charged in a Singapore court today with the alleged murder of his wife at a hotel in the city’s Chinatown district.

According to CNA, Salehuddin, 41, is accused of causing the death of Nurdia Rahmah Rery, 38, between 3am and 5am on October 24 in a room at the Capri by Fraser China Square hotel.

Appearing in court wearing a red polo shirt, Salehuddin appeared composed and communicated with the judge through a Bahasa Indonesia interpreter.

He directly addressed District Judge Tan Jen Tse, asking if he could be prosecuted or tried in Indonesia instead of in Singapore.

The judge informed him that it was too early for such a request, as the case was still in its preliminary stages, and that no applications would be considered at this time, CNA reported.

Salehuddin then objected, stating that he was facing the death penalty.

Judge Tan assured him that he would likely be assigned legal counsel in due course. The court granted the prosecution’s application to remand Salehuddin for psychiatric observation for three weeks.

According to media reports, Salehuddin had approached officers at Bukit Merah East Neighbourhood Police Centre at about 7.40am on Friday and confessed to killing his wife.

Paramedics later pronounced Nurdia dead at the hotel room on South Bridge Road.
