Hishammuddin: Malaysians abroad hit by COVID-19 should stay calm

PUCHONG: Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said around 54,430 Malaysians and government officers in 10 countries worst hit by COVID-19 currently.

The Sembrong MP said the latest record revealed by Wisma Putra consist of Malaysians in China, Korea, Italy, Iran, Japan, France, German, Spain, US and Switzerland.

“I understand that Malaysians are worried about COVID-19 especially after reading the latest situation in Italy after it went viral in social media.

“I also know that the rakyat want to know what are the government actions to help our citizens in the affected countries,” he said in a press conference in Wisma Putra, Putrajaya today.

Hishammuddin guaranteed that Wisma Putra is working closely with all the countries involved to help Malaysians but it still falls under the jurisdiction of each country

.”My deputy, Datuk Kamaruddin Jaffar is leading a task force to find the best ways to help our citizens in this situation,” he said.

He also requested Malaysians in countries hit by coronavirus to remain calm and register themselves with the Malaysian Embassy at each country.

“This action will help the consulars to assist them,” he said.
