Hisham: WHO choose Malaysia to test COVID-19 medicine

PUCHONG: World Health Organization (WHO) chose Malaysia to conduct clinical trial on a medicine called Rendesivir to treat COVID-19.

Health Ministry director general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Malaysia was picked based on the ability of the ministry to perform clinical trials.

“WHO has informed us that Malaysia has been chosen as one of the centre to research the new medicine that will be used to treat the coronavirus.

“We will have a discussion with WHO about the research tonight,” he said at a press conference at Putrajaya today.

Hisham added Malaysia is one of the countries chosen as the centre of the research.

“The research in Malaysia will be conducted at Sungai Buloh Hospital dan other facilities that are treating the coronavirus.

“We will know how effective Rendesivir after we conducted the research,” he said.
