Hisham: COVID-19 cases reach 2,031, death 23

PUCHONG: Health Ministry director general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 235 of confirmed COVID-19 cases reported today, increasing the new total to 2,031.

Hisham said 60 of the new cases are from the tabligh gathering at Masjid Jamek, Sri Petaling cluster.

“Whereas, 175 of the new cases are from other clusters that are still under investigation.

“Until today, 45 COVID-19 patients are receiving treatment at intensive care unit (ICU) and needed respiratory help,” he said at a press conference at Putrajaya today.

Hisham said two more death from COVID-19 were reported today, bringing the death toll to 23.

“The 22nd death is a Malaysian man aged 48 who has chronic disease and had attended the tabligh gathering.

“The patient was treated at the Hajjah Khalsom Enche ‘General Hospital, Johor and passed away on March 23, at 8.15pm.

He added the 23rd death is a man aged 62 from Kajang with a history of chronic illness.

 “He received treatment at the Raja Bainun Hospital in Ipoh and passed away at 12.37pm yesterday,” he said.

Meanwhile, he said 80 Health Ministry (MOH) personnel were positive for Covid-19 disease, but so far, there have been no cases of infection caused by Covid-19 positive case management at MOH health facilities.

“39 members were from the cluster incident at Teluk Intan Hospital, Perak. Considering the current situation, the MOH has ordered all health and support personnel to undergo the Covid-19 detection test at the hospital, ”he said.
