Hisham: A new coronavirus case confirmed in Malaysia, total now 18

PUCHONG: The Health Ministry today confirmed a Malaysian man aged 31 has been infected with the novel coronavirus, making the total of confirmed case in the country at 18.

Its director general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the man who worked in Macau, China, had fallen sick since Feb 3 had been treated at Banting Hospital, Selangor since Feb 7, after he was diagnosed with pneumonia.

“Further checks found him to have Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI).

“Yesterday, after sample taken from him, he was confirmed suffering from the 2019-nC0v,” he said, in a statement today.

Hisham was commenting reports about the man who returned from China on Feb 1, which went viral on social media.

Hisham said the Selangor Health Department and Kuala Langat District Health Department are now doing contact screening and taking preventive actions to curb the coronavirus spread.

He also advised people not to panic and seek further information about the disease using official channel.
