Hew’s comic book: I believe DAP is not involved, says Azis

PUCHONG: Deputy Home Minister Datuk Mohd Azis Jamman said he believed that the DAP is not involved in the distribution of the controversial ‘Belt and Road Initiative for Win Winism’ comic book.

“DAP leaders have denied any involvement in the distribution of the comic book. So, I assume it is the work of an individual,” he said during a press conference.

Last week, former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak highlighted that DAP activist Hew Kuan Yau was distributing the comic book in schools throughout Penang.

Najib alleged that the comic book was full of propaganda and was in support of communism.

The comic also referred to those who are opposed to the human rights violations suffered by the Uighur community in China as “Muslim radicals.”

The comic was authored by Hew and published by the Asia Comic Cultural Museum, which he is the curator.

Although DAP leaders have distanced themselves from the comic, the forward note for the publication was written by DAP secretary general Lim Guan Eng, who is also Finance Minister.

The Education Ministry had since announced that Hew has no authority to distribute the comic to schools. The Home Ministry had also issued a ban on the comic under Section 7(1) of the Printing Presses and Publications Act 1984.

Azis said that the police are currently investigating the matter and he will leave it to the authorities to decide on the comic book issue.

“The Home Ministry will assist the police on the matter,” he said.

On the upcoming Tanjung Piai by-election, Azis urged supporters from both Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan to adhere to the laws of the land when campaigning.

He also urged all quarters to refrain from raising sensitive matters, reminding them that Malaysia has a plural society.

‘Have some respect for law and order. I also urge Tanjung Piai voters to vote wisely.

“But of course, I do hope Pakatan wins,” said Azis, leaving people in stitches.
