‘Happy anniversary Wan Azizah’: Everlasting love in the midst of a power struggle
PUCHONG: In the midst of a political crisis and possibly losing his last chance to become prime minister, PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim took time off to celebrate the love of his life, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
In a Twitter post, Anwar voiced out on how grateful he was for having Wan Azizah as his companion for the past 40 years.
“40 years of kindness, 40 years of courage, 40 years of loyalty and 40 years of strength.
“Through thick & thin, I am everything I am today because of the love of my life & the grace of Allah.
“Happy Anniversary @drwanazizah & may He grant us many more years together,” said the Port Dickson MP.
Anwar served as deputy prime minister from 1993 to 1998, before he was sacked from the government by then prime minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
After years of batting Mahathir, the bitter rivals formed a team to take on former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, which saw the Barisan Nasional losing its grip on federal power last general election.
In an epic move, Mahathir appointed Wan Azizah to become his deputy but vowed to give way to Anwar within two years.
However, the plan fell through after Pakatan Harapan collapsed following Bersatu’s departure from the ruling coalition, with several other government MPs turning independent.
