GST re-implementation, #BoycottMalaysia to heat up Dewan Rakyat session today

KUALA LUMPUR: The government’s direction on the proposal to re-implement the Goods and Services Tax (GST) tax system will be among the main focus of the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday.
According to the Dewan Rakyat order papers posted on the Parliament website, the government’s direction on the proposed re-implementation of the GST system is the first question to be asked during the Minister’s Question Time.
The question from Ma’mun Sulaiman (PH-Kalabakan) is expected to be answered by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
The second question expected to capture the lawmakers’ attention is from Ahmad Fahmi Mohamed Fadzil (PH-Lembah Pantai) who will ask the Foreign Minister to state Malaysia’s stand on the #BoycottMalaysia campaign launched by Indian nationals on Twitter in response to Dr Mahathir’s speech at the recently concluded United Nations General Assembly.
During the normal Question Time, Datuk Seri Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz (PH-Tanah Merah) is expected to steal the attention as he is scheduled to ask the Minister of Health to explain the efforts taken by the ministry to overcome ward congestion at public hospitals, which has been deemed critical of late.
The question to be asked by Noor Amin Ahmad (PH-Kangar) is equally interesting as he will be asking the Minister of Finance to explain how the government determines there is a need to conduct direct negotiation for procurement or purchases in some cases.
Meanwhile, two bills are expected to be tabled for the first reading tomorrow, namely the Supply Bill 2020 and the National Financial Crime Centre Bill 2019.
The current meeting of the Dewan Rakyat is scheduled to take place until Dec 5.
