Gobind: Malaysia aims to become one stop digital transformation centre

KUALA LUMPUR: Communication and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo said Malaysia aims to become the one stop digital transformation centre for the region as the digitalisation mass volumes of physical assets can now be done in a short period time.

He said the plan will also help in preserving the nation’s audio visual history in order to create value and benefit all Malaysians and the future generation.

“There is definitely an urgent need to preserve our audio visual history if these audio visual recordings are of national value.

“We need to formulate a national framework for the digitalisation of film and audio visual collectors,” he said, after witnessing the launch of DAMsmart Asia Centre of Excellence in Petaling Jaya today.

He also witnessed the signing of memorandum of understanding between DAMSmart Asia Sdn Bhd, Transmedia Dynamics and Silver Trak Digital.

Gobind said the framework can be achieved through a collaborative approach involving all stakeholders such as federal and state governments, national organisations, non-governmental and non-profit bodies, research-learning institutions as well as private sectors.

“This also means that government and its agencies, as well as private sector businesses don’t need to send valuable national, private or corporate archives overseas for processing as this can all be done in Malaysia,” he said.

Gobind added the launch of the centre brings the world class expertise and technologies to Malaysia,

“It will also help in creating technology based jobs in the industry here,” he said.
