Girl on motorcycle dies due to rider’s blurred vision

BAGAN SERAI: A girl died after the motorcycle she was riding crashed into the back of a lorry at Jalan Mini Tar Kampung Parit Haji Taib 2, near here, this afternoon.

Kerian district police chief Supt Omar Bakhtiar Yaacob said in the 3 pm incident the victim identified as Auni Marissa Norman, 6, died at the scene due to severe head injuries.

According to Omar Bakhtiar, the incident happened when the victim was riding a motorcycle with her mother, Siti Fauziah Abdul Kairi, 34; her brother, one-year-old Muhammad Faiz Akmal Norman ridden by her uncle Mohamad Hafiz Mohd Adli, 21, from Jalan Minitar Parit Haji Taib 2 towards Jalan Ipoh-Butterworth.

“Upon reaching the scene, a lorry had stopped on the road due to open burning of padi straws causing thick smoke which blurred the driver’s vision.

“The motorcycle carrying the victim then crashed into the back of the truck, causing the death of Auni Marissa who was sitting in the basket in the front,” he said in a statement here today.

The victim’s mother and brother as well as her uncle suffered minor injuries and received treatment at the Teluk Medan health clinic here.
