KUCHING: The Forest Research Institute of Malaysia (FRIM) is ready to offer its expertise, services and research findings to help the Sarawak forestry industry promote sustainable use of forest resources.

As a start to the initiative, FRIM sponsored a Technology Discussion programme with the support of the Forest Department Sarawak (FDS) here today. It was attended by over 100 participants including from the timber concessionaires and wood-based companies such as kilns, and plywood and furniture factories.

In his welcoming speech, FRIM director-general Datuk Dr Abd Latif Mohmod, whose speech text was read by the deputy director-general (operations) Dr Khali Aziz Hamzah, said FRIM was willing to assist in providing innovations and solutions to ensure that resources derived from sustainable forest management would be utilised to maximum levels.
