Four MPs and two leaders from Bersatu quit party in solidarity with Dr M

PUCHONG: Several MPs and leaders from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia quit from the party as Tun Dr Mahathir relinquished his chairmanship from political outfit he founded.

The MPs who resigned from the party in solidarity with the nonagenarian were, Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, Datuk Seri Rina Harun and Maszlee Malik.

Also joining the gang were former Bersatu supreme council member Datuk Kadir Jasin and former information chief Radzi Jidin.

Amid the power struggle within Pakatan Harapan since yesterday, Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had announced that he was pulling out the party from the ruling coalition.

Former PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, together with 10 others, have also announced that they were abandoning Pakatan to form an independent bloc.

It was said that Muhyiddin and Azmin, together with those aligned to them, were working in cahoots with Muafakat Nasional to form a backdoor government by toppling Pakatan.

PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and DAP secretary general Lim Guan Eng had said that Mahathir decided to hang his boots as he was opposed to Bersatu working with Umno and PAS.

The duo, together with Parti Amanah Negara president Mohamad Sabu, had called upon Mahathir to reconsider his resignation and the pact would propose for the latter to be reinstated as premier in the Pakatan presidential council meeting, scheduled later tonight.

Mahathir is now having an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to resolve the current political impasse.
