Four Chinese nationals claim trial over alleged kidnapping of woman in Alor Setar
ALOR SETAR, Sept 15 — Three men and a woman, all of Chinese nationality, pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to a charge of kidnapping a fellow national last month.
Huang Jian, 39; Wang Hao Yu, 33; Guan Siqi, 24; and Liu Tingjun, 46, entered their pleas after the charge was read out to them in Mandarin before Judge N. Priscilla Hemamalini.
The four, together with another individual who was charged separately, allegedly kidnapped Xiong Xi Qiao, 33, with the intention of secretly and wrongfully confining her at a house in Taman Amira, Jalan Langgar, here at about 8.40 pm on Aug 7.
They were charged under Section 365 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same law, which provides for a maximum of seven years’ imprisonment and a fine upon conviction.
The court denied them bail and set Oct 11 for mention.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Nasruna Anhar Nordien appeared for the prosecution, while Guan Siqi was represented by lawyer S. Suresh, and the other three accused by lawyer Jodia Poh Yi Tying.
