Former EC official: EC chairman, commissioners must quit!
PUCHONG: Election Commission (EC) chairman Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun and all his commissioners must quit their posts following the formation of a new government.
Former EC deputy chairman Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Wan Omar said that the current commissioners must resign to show that the electoral body is seen as a neutral organisation.
He claimed that being former political activists, the current EC leadership only shows that they are not neutral.
“Azhar and a few other members, before the 14th General Election, were pro-Pakatan Harapan political activists. So, it is better for them to quit their posts now.
“In my opinion, they are no longer suitable to lead the government body,” Ahmad said in a statement today.
The former EC official also alleged that Azhar and his team are affiliated to Pakatan and were opposed to Perikatan Nasional.
“By still being in the commission, they go against what is written in Article 114 (2) of the Federal Constitution,” he said, adding that Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin should address the matter.
