Fire destroys 42 blocks of workers quarters in Sendayan

SEREMBAN: A total of 42 blocks of workers’ quarters comprising 840 units occupied by foreign workers at Jalan Labu LBJ, Taman Gadong Jaya, Sendayan, near here were destroyed in a fire at about 4 pm today.

Negeri Sembilan Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Ahmad Mukhlis Mokhtar, who led the operation, said all 1,140 occupants were at their respective workplaces at the time of the incident.

He said that four fire engines, three from the Seremban 2 Fire and Rescue station and one from Seremban, as well as 30 officials and firefighters were dispatched to the location upon receiving a distress call at 4.20 pm.

“There are a total of 49 blocks in the approximately 2.43-hectare area but we managed to save seven blocks, comprising 140 units. The blaze was brought under control an hour later.

“The cause of the fire and estimated losses are still being investigated,“ he said in a statement here today. –Bernama
