FIM extends Andrea’s suspension over Sepang doping failure
KUALA LUMPUR: The International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) has extended MotoGP rider Andrea Iannone’s suspension and barred him from participating in any motorcycling competition or related activity until further notice.
The 29-year-old Italian tested positive for a prohibited substance under the World Anti-Doping Agency list during the 2019 Malaysian Grand Prix at the Sepang International Circuti (SIC) on Nov 3 and was provisionally suspended since Dec 17.
The Aprilia team rider then requested to challenge his B sample, which also turned out to be positive.
“The hearing of the International Disciplinary Court (CDI) took place Monday at the FIM headquarters (in Switzerland) in the presence of a panel of three judges of the CDI where Andrea had the opportunity to present his case.
“The proceeding is still ongoing until a CDI decision is rendered and Andrea remains provisionally suspended until then. Under the WADA and the FIM Anti-Doping Code, the FIM is unable to provide any additional information at this time,” FIM said in a statement.
With the extended suspension, Andrea is set to miss this weekend’s 2020 season official test at SIC.
