Felda White Paper: Najib to be suspended for three months
KUALA LUMPUR: Pekan MP Datuk Seri Najib Razak is due to be suspended from parliament for three months for publishing part of the White Paper on Felda.
The motion would be tabled by Minister in Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Liew Vui Keong who is in charge of law.
The suspension is the first motion listed in Dewan Rakyat Order Paper today.
Najib had made a statement and republished paragraphs 1.4.6 and 1.4.7 on page 8, Appendix 1 of Chapter 3 from the Towards Conserving Federal Land Development Authority White Paper.
The former premier republished the above materials on his Facebook accounts even though the document was embargoed until 11.30 am yesterday.
Najib had highlighted Felda’s agreement to buy a 37-per cent stake in Indonesian firm Eagle High Plantations Tbk (EHP).
He did so to defend himself over the police report Felda lodged on Tuesday accusing him of misleading the agency into paying over RM2 billion for the stake that had allegedly been worth just RM440 million at the time of the sale.
On Twitter, he also pointed out that the Pakatan Harapan government is only focused on tarnishing Felda. The statutory agency was the brainchild of his father.
This is the first punitive action against the former premier, from the legislative branch, who is facing multiple charges in court.
In the latest development, the motion to suspend Najib was amended to refer him to Parliament’s Rights and Privileges Committee instead.
