Erectile dysfunction cases high among adults, says Health Ministry
PUCHONG: Health Ministry said erectile dysfunction (ED) problems among men, aged between 40 and 49 years in Malaysia, is high with 21% cases reported.
In a Facebook post today, the ministry said 9% of the cases were reported affecting those aged between 40 and 44 years old, where as 12% of the cases were reported among those who are aged between 45 and 49.
“ED cases are seldom reported because there is no routine checks on the problem.
“ED risks increase by age and it can cause other problems such as stress, loss in self confidence and also affect conjugal relationship,” it said.
Among the causes of ED include insomnia, depression, stress and non-communicable diseases (NCD) such as obesity, diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure and high cholesterol level.
“High alcohol consumption, smoking and drug abuse can also contribute to ED problems,” it said.
The ministry then advised Malaysians to practise a healthy life, manage stress effectively, prevent NCD and stop smoking to reduce chances of having ED.
