Ramkarpal call for IGP’s head to roll over enforced disappearance cases
PUCHONG: Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh called for Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Fuzi Harun’s head to roll over the involvement of the Special Branch (SB) in the enforced disappearance cases of Pastor Raymond Koh and Amri Che Mat.
“As the Special Branch itself has been named the party responsible, IGP Fuzi Harun ought to resign honourably or alternatively be suspended pending investigations into the said findings of Suhakam,” said the DAP lawmaker in reference to Suhakam’s conclusion earlier today.
Former Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi too denied that he and the ministry secretary general had given the directive to SB to carry out the abduction.
Ramkarpal also justified his call for Fuzi’s head.
“Although he might not be personally responsible, as head of the SB at the time, Fuzi should be magnanimous enough to step aside and allow investigations to commence independently into the said SB,” he said.
He added that it is paramount for an investigation to be commenced as the credibility of the police force was compromised by Suhakam’s findings.
“Such investigations cannot possibly be free from suspicion of bias if Fuzi continues helming the force and any perception of a cover up must be avoided at all costs,” he added.
He also called upon the Pakatan Harapan government to demonstrate its strong political will in taking action against Fuzi.
“The new PH government must demonstrate strong political will in handling the matter by first taking the necessary steps to suspend Fuzi in the event he does not resign and prioritising efforts to secure the release of Pastor Koh and Amri.”
“Those responsible must be held accountable and no stone left unturned in the investigations which must be immediately commenced.”
