Drop in number of flood evacuees in Melaka

MELAKA: The number of flood victims in Melaka continues to drop to 157 people involving 38 families at 8 am today, compared to 162 people from 40 families, at 8 pm yesterday.

Only three relief centres (PPS) are still opened to accommodate them, namely at  Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Durian Tunggal in Alor Gajah and SK Tehel and SK Parit Gantong, both in Jasin.

Melaka Malaysian Civil Defence Force director Lt Col (PA) Effendy Ali said the number of flood victims at  SK Durian Tunggal and SK Tehel still remained  at six people (one family) and 91 people (23 families), respectively.

“The number of victims at  SK Parit Gantong dropped to 60 people involving 14 families this morning compared to 65 victims from 16 families last night,” he said in a statement here today.

 Effendy, who is also head of the State Disaster Committee Secretariat, said six areas are still affected  by the floods.

They are Kampung Tehel and Kampung Parit Gantong in Jasin, and Kampung Bukit Tambun, Kampung Bukit Balai, Kampung Pulau and Kampung Belimbing in Alor Gajah.

The weather in the state today is reported fine.
