Dr Mahathir skips Rantau by-election due to busy schedule

PUCHONG: Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is skipping the Rantau by-election even though today is the last day of campaigning.
PKR’s Dr S Streram is vying for the Rantau seat for Pakatan Harapan (PH) in a four cornered tussle involving Umno acting president Mohamad Hasan of Barisan Nasional (BN) and two other independents.
Dr S Streram has been facing a tough challenge from Mohamad Hasan especially since PAS forged an alliance with BN.
Dr Mahathir who is also PH chairman joined the campaign trails in the last three by-elections in Port Dickson, Cameron Highlands and Semenyih.
The nonagenarian prime minister was unable to attend today due to a packed schedule for the day.
He had previously skipped the campaign trails in three by elections in Selangor – Seri Setia, Balakong and Sungai Kandis – which PH retained.
Voters in Rantau would be polling tomorrow.
