KUALA LUMPUR: PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang has come to the defence of Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as a result of Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar describing the premier as dictator.

“He is not a dictator because he was chosen democratically through an election, and it was Pakatan Harapan that chose him (to be Prime Minister).

“He did not appoint himself,” said Abdul Hadi to reporters.

Hadi who is also Marang MP added that Dr Mahathir must be firm in leading the present cabinet which he described as being weak.

“A leader must be firm in facing weak Cabinet members,” he added.

PKR president Anwar Ibrahim too conceded that Dr Mahathir was no dictator.

“For us, he is not (a dictator). We are consistent in choosing Dr Mahathir and we do support him as prime minister,” said Anwar who is also Port Dickson MP.

Anwar however hit out Hadi who he claimed was attempting to flatter the prime minister.

“Hadi is merely sucking up. He does not have an opinion of his own. PAS want to carry balls? No need,” he added.

In an interview with Singapore Straits Times, Nurul said she was broken hearted to work with Dr Mahathir again. In response, Dr Mahathir said that the disappointment is mutual.

Nurul, a three term MP, also announced that the current term is the last for her.
