Dr M on quitting: People still love me, always taking selfies with me!

PUCHONG: Despite getting flak from the public and growing resentment against his leadership, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad insisted that Malaysians still love him and yearn for his leadership.

He offered a ’solid’  proof to his claim; People still take selfies with him!

“So far, nobody has punched my nose or anything like that. They all salam me wherever I go. They even take selfies with me!

“So, there are people who like me. Maybe not love me but like me,” he said, after chairing the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia meeting yesterday.

After the massive drubbing Pakatan Harapan received in the Tanjung Piai by-election recently, analysts have indicated that Mahathir and his team were losing public support for not fulfilling their own election pledges.

Pro- PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim group, Otai Reformasi and several other Pakatan leaders have called for Mahathir to hasten the power transition plan and hand over reigns to the Port Dickson MP soon.

There was also speculation that PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, who is openly aligned to Mahathir, is getting MPs ready to back the prime minister should a vote of no-confidence pushed at the Dewan Rakyat.

Asked about the calls to hasten the power transition plan, the wily nonagenarian said it would be ‘too messy’ to quit at this juncture.

“Changing prime minister in the middle is a very confusing thing. It creates a lot of problem.

“If I am sacked, I don’t know but I think I need to be serious about this thing”, Mahathir said sarcastically.
