Dr M: Mukhriz’s govt at the mercy of PAS

PUTRAJAYA: Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad equates the fate of his son, Kedah menteri besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz similar to an egg at the tip of a horn (seperti telur di hujung tanduk), after Pakatan Harapan managed to retain the state.

In an exclusive interview with Sinar Harian at his office yesterday, Mahathir said that Kedah is at the mercy of its 15 state assemblymen from PAS.

“It all depends on PAS members. If they stop supporting my son, his government will fall.

“However, Kedah PAS did not follow its central leadership’s move to support Perikatan Nasional and are backing Mukhriz as menteri besar.

“But Mukhriz’s situation is like an egg at the tip of a horn. If you shake it a little, it is bound to fall down,” he said.

Mahathir was responding to queries on whether the Kedah state government would fall to Perikatan, as what happened with Johor, Malacca and Perak.

Mahathir, acknowledged that he himself found it strange that PAS is still supporting the state government in Kedah, which is led by Bersatu.

“However, the situation may change as Kedah PAS will definitely be pressured by its central leadership,” he said.

The state government led by Mukhriz, who is also Bersatu deputy president, was reported to be in turmoil following the split in the party after Pakatan collapsed.

However on March 4, Mukhriz denied that he had lost majority support and was still in charge.
