‘Don’t stoke racial, religious sentiments’

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Community Care Foundation (MCCF) chairman Halim Ishak advised the public to refrain from stoking racial and religious sentiments in connection with a recent road rage incident here.
He said such sentiments were being played by irresponsible individuals on social media, which in turn raised public anxiety.
If left unchecked, he said, it could create an atmosphere of discord among the races.
“As Malaysians, we need to uphold the aspect of unity as well as be tolerant and good-mannered. There is no need to fight to express dissatisfaction or anger.
“We have laws in place that protect everyone,” he said in a statement.
Last Saturday, a man was killed after being involved in an altercation following a misunderstanding which resulted from a road accident at KM239 of the Kuala Lumpur-Seremban Expressway, near Bandar Baru Bangi, here.
The police have since arrested a husband and wife, in their early 40s and late 30s respectively, to assist in the investigation.
