Dewan Rakyat too cold for MPs? Hold your sitting in Bukit Jalil Stadium!

PUCHONG: The Dewan Rakyat had another embarrassing moment two days ago when the August House could not conduct its sitting to the absence of MPs.

This came despite Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad himself reprimanding his MPs for truancy two weeks ago.

However, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Mohamed Hanipa Maidin offered a bizarre excuse for MPs absenteeism; the Dewan Rakyat is too cold!

“It’s not easy for us MPs to sit in the Dewan Rakyat for long hours. It’s too cold in here. It’s the same in other Parliaments across the world. You cannot expect us to sit there for long hours,” he was reported saying.

However, Twitter users could not swallow Hanipa’s feeble excuse and vomited scorn on the Parti Amanah Negara leader.

One Twitter user offered a ‘practical’ solution to resolve the MPs plight; conduct the Dewan Rakyat sitting in the middle of the Bukit Jalil stadium.

“I suggest that our leaders hold sitting in the middle of the Bukit Jalil football stadium from now on. Why is this old bird Hanipa Maidin so idiotic? Is this how a law degree holder give excuse? Idiot!” said Ayahanda MD.

Another Twitter user, AhWatt said Hanipa should just use his brains and get the maintenance team to readjust the air-conditioning temperature.

“What an idiotic statement. You spent millions to refurbish the Parliament, just get the maintenance guy to readjust the temperature so that you guys won’t fall sick.

“Why not just dissolve the Parliament so that we can elect MPs who are not sick in their minds,” said AhWatt.

Another Twitter user reminded Hanipa and his fellow MPs that all this hard work is part and parcel of being an elected representative.

“If you feel too cold, tired and burdened by your workload, then please resign. You wanted to become MPs, so bear with the responsibility. Stop whining,” said are_leaf92.
