Deputy minister Farid Rafik dies

PUCHONG: Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Wira Mohamed Farid Md Rafik passed away in the wee hours of this morning.

He was 43.

Farid, who is Deputy National Unity and Social Wellbeing Minister, died at the Pontian Hospital at about 5am today due to a heart attack.

The deceased, who is from Bersatu, was also Tanjung Piai MP.

Johor menteri besar Datuk Sahruddin Jamal confirmed Farid’s death to Berita Harian.

Farid defeated MCA’s Datuk Seri Wee Jeck Seng with a slim majority of 524 votes at the general elections last year.

Farid bagged 21,255 votes against Wee, who garnered 20,731.

The other candidate was PAS’ Nordin Othman with 2,962 votes.
