DAP MP: We failed Malaysians, voters call us ‘kencing’ and ‘pengecut’

KUALA LUMPUR: A DAP lawmaker yesterday hurled brickbats against his own coalition leaders for the embarrassing defeat Pakatan Harapan suffered at the recently concluded Tanjung Piai by-election.

In a fiery speech at the Dewan Rakyat, Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng said Pakatan’s decision to not fulfill their own election pledge, such as failing to close down rare earth miner, Lynas (M) Sdn Bhd, as a classic example of Pakatan’s betrayal to the voters.

“In the last general election, we campaigned and promised to the rakyat that we (PH) will revoke Lynas’ operating licence and send back its waste to Australia.

“Instead, some of our ministers got busy witnessing memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing with Lynas. Did we fulfill our promise? What has been done so far? Don’t play with the voters!” he lashed out while debating the 2020 Supply Bill for the Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change Ministry.

The DAP leader also thundered back saying that there was no point in debating the supply bill if Pakatan keeps snubbing its voters.

“Don’t play with the voters’ sentiments. We (PH) cannot be a ‘U-Turn’ government. Opposition supporters are calling us liars and cowards,” he said.

The Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change Ministry is helmed by a fellow DAP leader, Yeo Bee Yin.

Lim’s speech received applause from Barisan Nasional (BN) lawmakers.

On related matter, Ahmad Marzuk Shaary (PAS-Pengkalan Chepa) lauded Lim’s statement and addressed him as a ‘world-class MP’.

Other opposition lawmakers also urged Pakatan MPs to heed Lim’s advise.

“Listen to him, Kuantan,” Datuk Seri Ismail Mohamed Said (BN-Kuala Krau) said referring to Kuantan MP Fuziah Salleh, who in the past, had been a vocal critic of Lynas.
