COVID-19: Ten news cases in Malaysia, total now at 93
PETALING JAYA: There are 10 new cases of COVID-19 in Malaysia, bringing the total to 93.
In a statement by the Health Ministry, all 10 cases are linked to Patient-33, a 58-year old male, who travelled to Kuching for a business meeting on Feb 16.
The first four cases were in close contact with Patient-33, while the rest were in the second wave of close contacts.
Patient-33 was said to have contracted the coronavirus from Patient-26, who is UDA chairman Datuk Hisham Hamdan.
Yesterday, Health Ministry director general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that while the UDA chief is linked to the second wave of the coronavirus outbreak, the latter was not the cause of it.
The ministry also confirmed that close contacts to Hisham found that one cluster was linked to Patient-33.
It said there were a total of 132 close contacts from this cluster, of whom 18 tested positive for COVID-19.
Meanwhile, the ministry said Patient-78 had a record of travelling to Indonesia for seven days beginning Feb 13, and started showing symptoms on Feb 19.
Indonesia has declared four COVID-19 patients so far, but there are concerns that cases are being underreported.
