CM will meet Penang governor tomorrow on state assembly dissolution
GEORGE TOWN, June 26 — Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow will meet with the Yang di-Pertua Negri Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak tomorrow to obtain his consent to dissolve the state legislative assembly. Chow said the appointment with the governor is set for 8am.
“I will make an announcement on the dissolution together with invited assemblymen at 2.30pm tomorrow,” he said during a press conference at his office today.
The Penang Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman also said the coalition aims to retain a majority of its seats in the upcoming state elections. When asked about the status of seat negotiations with Barisan Nasional (BN), Chow said talks have ended and it was now up to the PH presidential council to make the final decision. He confirmed that BN component parties MCA and MIC have also asked for seats but did not state what decision was made at the state PH level.
“The final decision will be announced by the PH presidential council,” he said.
Penang has 40 state seats, and in the 14th general election (GE14), PH won 37, including two by Bersatu when it was still under PH, while BN won two, and PAS, one.
