Bukit Aman say they know how MAS pilot cleared KLIA checks after three-day interrogation
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 14 — Police are pursuing members of a drug syndicate in Malaysia after a Malaysia Airlines pilot was arrested in Jakarta late last month with more than 26 kilogrammes of drugs in his luggage.
According to Berita Harian (BH), Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the operation followed intelligence obtained after investigators interrogated the pilot over two days.
He said the questioning enabled police to gather information on syndicate networks in Malaysia and abroad, as well as the individuals involved. Hussein added that further details could not yet be disclosed publicly.
He said NCID had received strong cooperation from the Indonesian National Police (POLRI) during the investigation. The questioning, initially scheduled for August 12 and 13, was extended until August 14, and the pilot was reported to have given full cooperation.
Hussein said the investigation also allowed NCID to share key intelligence on international drug syndicates with relevant agencies.
“The team also learned how the suspect bypassed checks at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and about the syndicate’s financial flows at home and abroad,” he told BH.
The case involves a 39-year-old Malaysia Airlines pilot who was arrested shortly after arriving at Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport from Kuala Lumpur on July 28.
Indonesian authorities said more than 26kg of ecstasy tablets and a packet of methamphetamine were found in a suitcase the pilot collected after customs officers flagged it during an X-ray inspection.
