Betrayal: Reject backdoor Government, call for elections now

Parti Sosialis Malaysia sympathises with the sentiment of many Malaysian who wished for a new dawn after the BN Government was ousted by a popular vote through the ballot box in May 2018. Today these same scoundrels who lost the elections along with some parties from the PH are now working towards a backdoor Government to rob those gains and hope gained 20 months ago.

The biggest motivation for this backdoor Government seems to be the question of power. This elitist top down approach needs to be condemned and those who were plotting this change need to be rejected and thrown out to the dustbin of history. They have orchestrated change neither from the ballot boxes nor from the streets. They have merely met in posh hotels and elitist settings to manoeuvre change.

PSM condemns all this players. We have been consistent from day one when we questioned Tun Mahathir’s entry even as early as the Deklarasi Rakyat though many civil society leaders were swayed to the short cuts in bringing change. Today our position has been vindicated.

We have also on numerous times called on the PH Government to treat the rakyat as their political ally and built the peoples’ movement to safeguard the democratic space. But sadly PH took the part of just replacing BN, persuing neoliberal capitalist policies and not very forthcoming in fulfilling their own election pledge. Infact PH continued to pursue race based politics inherited by the BN. Having done all this, they have even killed the reformasi spirit which was there in 1998. It is unlikely that the rakyat is going to come out this time to rally behind Anwar, Kit Siang or Sabu.

PSM reject backdoor politics and calls upon a fresh mandate through the ballot boxes so that the rakyat can chose once again and now since they have seen the true colours of their representatives. PSM also calls for a new alliance of political parties based on politics of principles, integrity and track record to fight politics based cronyism, corruption and elitism.
