Bersatu now backs Dr M, DAP MPs turn now to meet Agong

PUCHONG: After upsetting founder Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) announced that its MPs would back the former to stay on as prime minister.
In a statement today, its information chief Radzi Jidin said that they have conveyed the message to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong during a meeting this morning.
“We have met Sultan Abdullah this morning and conveyed our support for Mahathir, even though he has resigned our chairman.
“We also urge our members to calm down and trust our party leaders to handle the current political situation,” he said.
On Monday, Mahathir quit as prime minister and Bersatu chairperson, apparently upset that his party had urged him to renege on the power transition plan.
Subsequently, Bersatu and several other disgruntled leaders pulled out from Pakatan Harapan, triggering a political crisis.
Mahathir has returned as an interim prime minister, on the advice of the Ruler, is currently running a one-man government as the Cabinet has been dissolved.
Earlier just now, DAP MPs were seen entering the Istana Negara to have an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
Among those spotted were Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo, Bakri MP Yeo Bee Yin, Jelutong MP RSN Rayer and Ipoh Barat MP M Kulasegaran.
Meanwhile, maverick PKR MP P Prabakaran told the press to wait for ‘good news’.
“Good things are coming. Wait for the results,” he said, while entering Istana Negara.
