Azmin: We thwarted plotters who wanted to undermine Dr M
PUCHONG: The disgruntled ex-Pakatan Harapan leaders who led to the collapse of the government claimed that they made their move in order to thwart the conspiracy to oust Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in the middle of his term.
In a statement issued last night, the 11 MPs led by Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said their move was to ensure the people’s and investor’s confidence in the stability and sustainability of the government’s policy aimed at improving people’s lives, as promised Shared Prosperity Vision 2030.
“Therefore, we strongly deny the allegations that we were traitors. Instead, those who seek to oust the prime minister in the middle of his term are the real traitors.
“These people are more concerned on who becomes the prime minister instead of implementing government policies aimed at restoring the economy and improving the wellbeing of the people,” said Azmin.
He added that his effort was all about supporting Mahathir’s work and allow him to finish his term without any pressure.
Azmin said the conspiracy to overthrow the prime minister was evident during the Pakatan Harapan presidential council meeting last Friday, where Mahathir was forced to set an official date for his resignation and allow PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to take over.
“This is the culmination of their campaign, to expedite the power transition plan.
“The campaign has been underway for the past few months, with increasing frequency to divert public attention from efforts to focus on the agenda of economic recovery and institutional reforms,” he said.
“Various efforts have been made to pressure Mahathir as he prepares the country to hold the APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) Conference in November.
“APEC is very important because it provides an opportunity for Malaysia to be a model of democratic nation that prioritises the people’s aspirations.
“We believe that the attempt to force the prime minister to set an official retirement date is nothing short but evil and make Mahathir a lame duck premier,” he said.
