Anwar: We’ve been betrayed but don’t abandon the reform agenda

PETALING JAYA: We have been betrayed and a new government maybe formed soon, said PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Speaking to the public after officiating his weekly prayer session at his residence in Bukit Segambut, he urged the people to remain committed to the reform agenda during this turbulent period.

“We are shocked by the recent developments. It’s a betrayal as there was a promise on the power transition plan.

“Due to the recent happenings, I expect some changes in the government soon. Although there is nothing official for now, the effort is ongoing,” he said.

Earlier today, Bersatu chairperson Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad held an emergency meeting with his party leaders. PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali also held a secret meeting with those aligned to him.

The team later headed to Istana Negara to have an audience with Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.

They were also joined by Muafakat Nasional leaders such as Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Hamid Hamidi, PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang and others from Gabungan Parti Sarawak.

While many had remained mum on what transpired, MIC president Tan Sri SA Vigneswaran told the media that Azmin is no longer with PKR and Bersatu may leave Pakatan soon.

On related matter, Anwar and his wife, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, are scheduled to meet Sultan Abdullah tomorrow at Istana Negara.

Sources have told The Leaders Online that it appeared that the Ruler was unconvinced that Mahathir commanded majority support from Dewan Rakyat and has not ruled out the possibility of calling for snap polls to resolve the current political stalemate.
