Anwar: Four reasons why Streram chosen for Rantau

RANTAU: PKR president Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim gave four reasons on why Dr S Streram was chosen to contest in the state seat amidst dissatisfaction over the latter’s candidacy.

He highlighted the points during the ceramah sessions in three locations – Taman Angsamas, Taman Sri Ramai and Kampung Felda Sendayan.
The first reason was that Anwar had promised the seat for an Indian candidate following the decision to field a Malay candidate in Jeram Padang.

In previously elections, PKR fielded an Indian against BN – MIC candidate. The seat is held by MIC’s L Manickam.

“In Port Dickson, I asked the Indians to support me, in Gopeng Lee Boon Chye asked for Indian support, but in Rantau we can’t field an Indian, it must be a Malay. It’s not fair,” said Anwar.

The second reason is that Malays are not under threat as alleged by the opposition.

To prove the point, he highlighted the examples of Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun.

Anwar who is also Port Dickson MP also told the crowd that Streram’s efforts in filing n election petition was what led to the by-election.

He also praised Streram’s humanitarian mission efforts in Muslim countries such as Sudan and Afghanistan.

His explanation is somewhat vital to gain Malay votes especially in Kampung Felda Sendayan that has Malay crowd.

He also promised to include Rantau in his Port Dickson development plan.
