Anwar: DAP never disputes Malay rights and supports a government for all races
MUAR, July 5 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stressed that DAP has never disputed the rights of the Malays, thus refuting the narrative of certain quarters who are trying to portray the party as a racist organisation.
Anwar, who is also the chairman of Pakatan Harapan (PH), said as proof, DAP has never objected to its intention to gazette 20.23 hectares of land in Bandar Malaysia as Malay Reserve Land.
However, he said that as the leader of the unity government, it is his responsibility to be fair to all races to ensure that the country’s prosperity can be enjoyed together.
“We do programmes (for the Malay community), Bumiputeras, increase allocations for Perbadanan Usahawan Nasional Berhad (PUNB), it (DAP) has no problem.
“But I have to ensure that programmes with the Chinese are not blocked. Poor Chinese should be helped, poor Indians should be helped, the majority of poor Malays should be helped,” he said at the Meeting Anwar Programme at a restaurant hall here today.
Commenting further, Anwar said that despite the country’s current economic boom, the profits obtained should be distributed fairly to all levels of society and not for the personal interests of certain individuals.
He said the country’s economic growth should be translated into the well-being of the people through the provision of comfortable homes, good basic facilities and improved quality of education.
“The economy is growing, we want it to be distributed fairly, ensure that the people’s homes, stalls, basic facilities, quality of education are improved.
“I want children to understand, power is a trust to be used, not to enrich yourself. Politics is not about enriching oneself. Politics is about service,” he said.
