Anthony Loke: Probe shows MV Pireas shipmaster careless
KUALA LUMPUR: The carelessness of MV Pireas’s captain was the reason it slammed into the Malaysia Marine Department’s MV Polaris in waters near Singapore on Feb 9.
Transport Minister, Anthony Loke, said the captain of the Greek-registered bulk vessel failed to observe good seamanship, besides slipping in systematic observation to obtain early warning risk of a collision.
“The investigation by the Marine Department is complete and is being readied for the Johor state Deputy Public Prosecutor for further action, either prosecution or a penalty for each infraction by the shipmaster,” he said.
