Another reprieve to disqualify Gopal Sri Ram

PUTRAJAYA: Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak obtained another legal reprieve to disqualify fiat prosecutor Datuk Seri Gopal Sri Ram from leading the prosecution team in his 1MDB trial involving RM2.28 billion.
A Court of Appeal panel led by Justice Hasnah Mohamed Hashim reached a unanimous decision to grant Najib leave to commence a judicial review to challenge Attorney General Tommy Thomas’ appointment of Gopal as a fiat prosecutor.
This decision quashes the Kuala Lumpur High Court ruling on 19 Feb this year that denied leave for Najib.
Today’s ruling also applies to Najib’s lawyer, Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah’s appeal to disqualify Gopal from prosecuting criminal cases against him.
Shafee’s application at the High Court too was denied on 19 Feb.
