Annuar, Yeoh slug it out over Ramadan funds disbursal

PUCHONG: Ketereh MP Annuar Musa took Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister Hannah Yeoh to task for claiming credit in disbursement of funds for mosques and suraus in conjunction with the fasting month of Ramadan.

“Use your own funds, YB. That is government funds,” said Annuar who is also Umno secretary general on Twitter.

Yeoh had posted the handing over RM55,000 in cheque to nine mosques and 37 suraus. Cheques worth RM2000 was also handed to mosques and RM1,000 each to suraus were also given away.

Yeoh said she had been giving out funds in conjunction with Ramadan for the past 10 years, ever since she became Subang Jaya state assemblyman in 2009.

In return Yeoh who is also a DAP leader pointed out that the funds were distributed to the people and did not end up in the pocket of the leders.

She also reminded Annuar that under the BN administration, opposition MPs did not receive funds. The funds were instead given to BN appointed constituency coordinators.

“It is vital that the people’s funds don’t end up in the pockets of the leaders. Even before, the government gave allocations to BN coordinators.”

“You don’t see anything and the people don’t get anything.”

The issue of disbursement of funds for Ramadan is vital as Umno has consistently depicted the Chinese majority party as a threat to Muslims and Malay community at large.

The DAP, on the other hand, has been wooing the Malay vote bank to gain the support of the majority ethnic group in Malaysia.
