KUALA LUMPUR: The Transport Ministry will obtain the views of the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) on amending the Road Transport Act 1987 to increase the penalty for causing road fatalities, especially involving drink driving.
Its minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook said this was because enforcement on traffic offences, especially causing death due to driving under the influence of alcohol, came under the jurisdiction of PDRM.
“The ministry will study the matter in depth before making any decision. The views of the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research and the transport industry will also be sought for consideration,” he told the Dewan Rakyat today.-Bernama
