Acting DIG Abdul Hamid Bador is the new IGP, confirms Dr M

PUTRAJAYA: Acting DIG Datuk Abdul Hamid Bador has been confirmed to be the new Inspector General of Police (IGP), said Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

“Yes, I think he is the next IGP,” said the premier after the Labour Day celebration.

“I think the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong has signed his appointment letter,” he said

Hamid was named as acting deputy IGP in March, replacing Noor Rashid Ibrahim who retired.

The appointment comes days after IGP Tan Sri Fuzi Harun retired.

Hamid, formerly a deputy head of the Special Branch, went on early retirement in 2015 after he spoke up against the previous government’s alleged involvement in certain scandals.

He was recalled by leaders of the new Pakatan Harapan government and appointed Special Branch director in May 2018.

Last month, he took over as acting deputy IGP when Noor Rashid Ibrahim retired.
