Najib performs ‘sumpah laknat’, media heckled by crowd (full story)

KUALA LUMPUR: Almost 500 people gathered at the Masjid Jamek Kampung Baru today to witness former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak undertake the ‘sumpah laknat’.

Najib took the oath right after Friday prayers, to proclaim that he was not involved in the murder of Mongolian woman, Altantuya Shaariibuu back in 2006.

Before the ‘sumpah laknat’ took place, a commotion ensued between the attendees and the media personnel.

The people gathered there heckled the media for taking up the front row, claiming it was blocking their view of Najib performing the ‘sumpah laknat’.

A minor shouting and yelling match followed soon until the imam of the mosque intervened to defuse the tension.

“It is haram to shout and make noise in the mosque,” said the imam.

Also present by his side were his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor and Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

A few days ago, it was reported that Azilah Hadri, a former Special Actions Unit (UTK) officer, had signed a SD on Oct 17, claiming that Najib had instructed him and fellow officer, Sirul Azhar Umar to murder Altantuya back in 2006.

Najib was then the deputy prime minister cum defence minister.

In the SD, Azilah claimed that Najib had given him the ‘shoot to kill’ order verbally during a meeting in Pahang on Oct 17, 2006. The latter had claimed that Altantuya was a ‘foreign spy’ threatening national security.

Speaking about the matter latter, Najib reiterated that he had never met Altantuya before in his life.

He also said that this was his third time performing a ‘sumpah laknat’ in regards to the same accusation.

“The first sumpah laknat done during the Ijok state seat by-election in 2007.

“The second sumpah laknat I performed was in a mosque in Guar Perahu, during the 2008 Permatang Pauh by-election.

“And I’m doing this because a lot have been said about this allegation especially through social media and it has become a joke,” said Najib.
