95 compounded, three remanded for breaching RMCO

PETALING JAYA: A total of 98 individuals were arrested on Tuesday for ignoring the recovery movement control order (RMCO).

Of those arrested, 34 were caught in pubs and nightclubs, outlets that have yet to be given the green light to reopen for business.

Among others, 24 were held for failing to observe social distancing, 22 for not wearing a face mask and 10 for failing to pay their quarantine charges.

Eight business operators were also held for failing to record the personal details of their customers, according to Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

These arrests were made when authorities inspected 54,764 locations nationwide.

Of the total, 95 of those arrested were issued compounds while the remaining three have been remanded for further investigations.

Under the ongoing Ops Benteng, 34 undocumented migrants and four suspected smugglers were also nabbed for attempting to enter the country illegally.

In a statement issued today, Ismail Sabri said that from May 1 to Sept 29, a total of 7,427 people have been arrested.

The arrests were made when authorities carried out inspections on 54,764 locations nationwide.

He said an enforcement team from the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry separately conducted checks on 1,204 businesses to determine if they complied with the standard operating procedures (SOP).

The operators of 18 of these businesses have been given warnings for failing to adhere to the SOP.

A total 8,144 individuals have been put under mandatory quarantine to date. -Bernama
