5.5-magnitude quake strikes off Japan’s Iwate, no tsunami warning issued

TOKYO: An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.5 on Saturday struck off Iwate Prefecture in northern Japan, reported Xinhua news agency according to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).

The temblor occurred at around 4.19 pm local time, with its epicentre at a latitude of 40.1 degrees north and a longitude of 142.2 degrees east, and at depth of 50 km.

The quake logged 5 Lower in some parts of Iwate Prefecture on the Japanese seismic intensity scale which peaks at 7.

So far no tsunami warning has been issued.
